In AI commerce, a knowledge base is a structured repository of organized information used to ground AI systems in domain-specific knowledge. Unlike a raw dataset used for training, a knowledge base is typically used at inference time -- providing context, facts, or reference material to AI systems through retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) or similar architectures.
Proprietary knowledge bases -- built from years of domain expertise, curated content, or internal company data -- represent high-value AI assets because they are difficult to replicate and provide immediate competitive advantage to buyers.
