AI Automation

The use of AI to perform tasks that previously required human attention, at scale and with minimal intervention.

Also known as: intelligent automation, AI-powered automation, agentic automation

AI automation is the application of artificial intelligence to perform repetitive, rule-based, or judgment-dependent tasks at scale -- replacing or augmenting human attention with AI decision-making and action. This includes document processing, customer communication, data transformation, content generation, and operational monitoring.

As a commercial AI asset, AI automation refers to packaged automation systems -- configured workflows, agent systems, or API integrations -- that a business can deploy to reduce operational costs or increase throughput. The commercial value is the time-to-productivity: a buyer can deploy a pre-built AI automation in days rather than building from scratch in months.
